Getting Real with Real — Episode 5: "You Are the Delegated Priest of Your Home" (ft. Preston Woody)

Real Andrews:

I'm wrong.

Preston Woody:

You are the delegated priest of your home. So if there's darkness, if there's wild stuff on the TV, if there's things happening in your house, you're accountable. Nobody else. You won't be able to blame your pastor. You won't be able to blame your wife or blame your kids.

Preston Woody:

That's your domain entrusted to you. Five, four, three, two, one.

MC:

Welcome to the Getting Real with Real podcast where we get raw Real. Real, and brutally transparent so you can be the best version of you. Make sure you subscribe so you never miss an episode. Now let's kick it off with your host, Freya Andrews, aka coach.

Real Andrews:

54321. Boom. What's up, champions? Welcome to Getting Real with Real where we get raw, real, and brutally transparent so we can help you be the best version of yourself. I have an amazing guest.

Real Andrews:

I'm excited because most of my guests, I find them, glory to God, all the holy spirit by scrolling and stuff like that, but I haven't met them yet. And I do that on purpose. I do get people to say, hey, send me some questions and stuff like that. And and I I I don't like to really roll like that. And I don't like to get my questions too far ahead of time because I just like them to be spontaneous on both sides.

Real Andrews:

So but these questions, wow. I'm excited. Preston, how are you, champion?

Preston Woody:

Real, I'm so excited about life today. And and everyone who's listening on, thank you so much for listening. This is really our first conversation, and I just kinda have this feeling if if you're logging on here and if you'll listen to the end, I can almost guarantee your head is gonna be lifted. You're gonna get your eyes on the hills. The clouds are gonna part, and you're gonna see something for your future that you didn't see before.

Real Andrews:

Whoo. Let's go. Alright. So with that saying, I always open my podcast. Let's pray.

Real Andrews:

Thank you, father, for this day. This is not our day. It's your day. So have your will. Have your way.

Real Andrews:

Let our words be your words. Our thoughts be your thoughts, and our actions be your actions. Holy Spirit, bring the champions into this podcast to that need to hear what they need to hear and give me in Preston the the obedience to be able to say what we need to say so we can touch the right lives. In Jesus' name, he said, amen. Amen.

Real Andrews:

So let's just jump right in with the big one, the obvious one, and

Preston Woody:

then it gets better and better. So what happened that made you leave being a pastor to become a men's coach? Was there a moment that the pulpit stopped being enough? Man, Real, first off, like, I love I love your energy. So I'm I'm really excited to I feel like this conversation is gonna be beautiful and natural.

Preston Woody:

Yeah. So ever my story is when I was four years old. Like, I'm four years old. I'm in Cedar Hill, Texas at Trinity Church, and I see this evangelist comes in. I'm not sure if you grew up in church, but we had these things called revival nights.

Real Andrews:

Yes. Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

And I was at a revival night sitting on the front row, and I saw this evangelist get up, and he's preaching the gospel. He's giving an altar call, and people are rushing to the front. Now this is the nineties. People are bringing their CDs, their cigarette packs. They're throwing drugs at the platform.

Preston Woody:

They're throwing Switchblades, and people are giving their life to Jesus in tears. And I remember being four years old looking and seeing that transformation happen before my eyes, and I thought to myself, this is what I wanna do with my life. I wanna help people transform their life with the gospel. And ever since then, I was on a trajectory to wanna preach the gospel in ministry. I went to bible college, and in 2020, I was a part of a church plant where I started in building a children's ministry and then a student ministry and a young adult ministry and a successful church.

Preston Woody:

We started building this church as a really a system to serve God's people. Mhmm. But over the years, it became people serving a system. And I felt the incongruency in my heart.

Real Andrews:

Right. Right.

Preston Woody:

And depression was growing. Anxiety was growing. I remember that I used to think that anxiety attacks were for weak people.

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

And I remember in my first year of marriage having an anxiety attack and my my laying on my wife's lap just weeping, feeling so weak and helpless. And I was getting to a points a point where I knew something needed to change or reached out to my leadership, and their suggestion was to pray harder, take more pills that I was just dealing with a chemical imbalance and and to keep and to keep it private. Don't tell people what you're what you're dealing with outside of the outside of the system. I tried to play that game for a few years, and I was maintaining the image. But internally, I was dying, Real.

Preston Woody:

I was dying. And I was a little bit more loyal to the church in that system than I was to my wife. And I remember, I was working hard. I was putting in the effort. And again, it's a mind boggle because people would would be saved, healed, delivered.

Preston Woody:

The stuff was working externally, but I was dying internally. My doses were increasing, and I'm trying to figure out a way to break free of the darkness. I would get up on the platform. The anointing would hit, then I'd come off, and the darkness would just kinda come back. And I remember in in the kitchen of our house with my wife.

Preston Woody:

We had a new baby at the time, and we're having an argument. And it's about what's this divided loyalty. I was doing the right things on paper, but she knew my loyalty was divided. And I looked her in the eye, and I knew in this moment that if I don't make it if I don't make a change now in six months, she'll be gone. I felt it.

Preston Woody:

You know that feeling that, you know, like, I don't know how it's going to play out, but if I don't change now, this is it.

Real Andrews:

And

Preston Woody:

so I stepped into the office. I resigned. I stepped away from the thing that I've been doing for ten years, the thing that I thought I'd be doing my whole life, the thing I was being groomed to take over. And I stepped away because I I had to choose my first ministry over his ministry. The church is God's, but god has entrusted me, this wife, and this baby, to serve and to build.

Preston Woody:

And I I walked away from it. The moment I did, I felt a weight come off my chest. But now the question is, like, what do I do with my life? I signed a noncompete, which some people think it's a little bit strange. Perhaps I do as well.

Real Andrews:

Sounds a little crazy to

MC:

me.

Preston Woody:

When it comes to church, I'm not I don't have permission to preach the preach the gospel or preach within a x amount of radius or start a church or or do anything of that nature. So everything that I know how to do within proximity and this is 2020 in the middle of COVID. Right? Right. Everything's kind of upside down.

Preston Woody:

So there the noise was everywhere. There was no path to do the thing that I knew to do. So I had the thing that I decided to do was get away from the noise, go out into the woods for three days and nights, and hear the Holy Spirit's voice. So I talked to a pastor that was helping me walk through this journey and been with me through the through this whole experience. He said, go and ask the Holy Spirit.

Preston Woody:

So I'm a what I what what I call, like, a spirit filled believer. Like, I believe I have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Like, when we ask him, he will answer us and talk to us. Right now, in this day and age, people and people talk to the Holy Spirit less and less, and they ask AI more and more.

Real Andrews:

Oh, come on.

Preston Woody:

We we are culturally shifting into a dependence of idolatry. I'm not saying AI is evil, but when it becomes your first source, when it becomes the first person you inquire of, that's when your heart begins to shift. And I knew I needed to ask the Holy Spirit. I needed clarity from him. And so I went out into the woods, fasted for two days and nights, left my phone in the car just to hear from God.

Preston Woody:

I wrote down six or seven questions. And I got to the end of it, and I had one question left left unanswered. And and it was, what am I going to do, like, vocationally for this next season of life? And I get back to my car. Like, three days after going in, I pull up my phone.

Preston Woody:

I'm seeing my text for the first time. And text message comes in. First one I see, I pull it up, and it's a guy saying, hey, I've not been able to stop thinking about you for the past two or three days. I was curious if you would coach me. And right then, I knew I didn't make this up.

Preston Woody:

I didn't manufacture this. The Holy Spirit breathed. I got my last answer. So to him, I said yes. And I decided I'm gonna do just to be sure this is the Holy Spirit, I'm gonna do zero marketing.

Preston Woody:

I'm just gonna over deliver and serve this guy with all of the faculty that I have. That client turned into three, turned into five, turned into eight, turned into 10, which turned into my first workshop that year. And it it accidentally launched a coaching business. So now I'm I'm not primarily preaching and pastoring. Now I'm speaking and coaching.

Preston Woody:

And 20% of the clients that I bring in are unbelievers. But by the by our exit period, probably about 85% of them would say that they are Jesus believing, Christians. And now, yeah, that's how the conversion happened. And it wasn't, me building or manufacturing anything. It was the Holy Spirit that gave me vision.

Preston Woody:

And now I get to, this this October, I'm taking a a we'll call it a vision retreat where I'll take a group of about 20 guys out into the wilderness of sobriety, clarity, turn off the phones for two days and nights, and hear from God and get their seven questions answered.

Real Andrews:

Wow, man. I love it. You know, we'll we'll dude, we're definitely gonna have to do a follow-up podcast. You know, as I'm listening, like I said, champions, me and Preston haven't talked before now. And I'm listening, and I'll tell you a couple cool real cool things.

Real Andrews:

So recently when was it? When was it? When was it? When was it? April?

Real Andrews:

Was it April? April of this year. Our our stores are so similar, but how old are you, Preston?

Preston Woody:

34.

Real Andrews:

I was I was thinking that, bro. We're literally, you're half my age. We're like, we're like, you you could you could be my son. I'm listening to this champion and, I I think I knew that, but I forgot the depression, the anxiety, the panic attacks. I had my first panic attack when I was training for the the the, nineteen ninety nine ironman came out of nowhere.

Real Andrews:

I didn't even know what that was. It just like it just just humbling, as you know, depression, the whole thing. But, bro, check this out. There's so much, man. I just wanna check this out.

Real Andrews:

So I went to a thing called Man's Alliance. Somebody told me about it, and I I I joined it. I'm going to this thing called Carry the Fire and it's the ultimate thing. Carry the fire where you you know, you become ambassadors for our lord and savior Jesus Christ and I'm leaving, bro, to go to this thing and I'm like you, I'm in the same place. What's next?

Real Andrews:

What's next? And I I get a text just as I'm closing my phone because we have to hand in our phones for three days. We don't get no communication. We're in the wilderness for three days. I hand in my phone and just as I'm getting the phone, I get a text.

Real Andrews:

Guess what? For? Somebody wants me to coach them. And I come back after three days, bro. I swear to you.

Real Andrews:

I can show you the text. I come back in three days and I and I why I messaged him quick say, hey, I'm about to go off the grid. I didn't wanna ignore your call. Just to let you know but I'll be talking in three days and I came back. He became my biggest client, you know, to date and and like, dude, now, crazy.

Real Andrews:

Crazy, right? So, and guys, we haven't talked. Now if you're and and the other thing I wanted to say if you're listening to this trigger alert, guys, if you're watching this, you're struggling, guys, call 988 immediately. We'll be here. Come back and watch it.

Real Andrews:

911. Guys, if you're struggling with depression, you know, addiction, all of that stuff. We have similar things. We we don't want anybody to do that. But once again, I'm just keeping it real because that's what we do here, guys.

Real Andrews:

And isn't it amazing, Preston? Me and Preston were supposed to record this last week. Stuff happened. But full transparency, well, you didn't know culture was in a deep, dark depression literally till this morning. And I and I wouldn't have been able to be this.

Real Andrews:

I could have faked it, but I wouldn't be able to be this energy right now for my man, for the holy spirit. And I come in, and now he's telling me stuff through Preston. Amazing. That's how he works. Okay.

Real Andrews:

So listen. Next question, champion. Your bio says, don't die. Your mission dot dot dot. What's the rest of the sentence, and what almost took you out before you got there?

Real Andrews:

You know,

Preston Woody:

I say I say don't die because I think most people dot let themselves die internally before they die externally. And don't die because if your heart I believe if your heart is still beating, that means you are still on commission for a mission. Like, whenever I

Real Andrews:

for a mission.

Preston Woody:

When I I think one of the most powerful things that we can do every single day is even put our hand over the our heart. Like, even if you're listening, do it right now and feel that sensation, that beating of your heart. The fact that it's a rhythm that you didn't set in motion. You're not pumping that sucker. Like Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

Someone bigger and greater than you that designed you set this in motion. And as long as this drum is kicking, you still have a mission. And so I think that if we remember, we still have a mission and an assignment on this earth. It also helps remind us that your life is less about you than you think it is. If we feel if, like, the part a lot of my suffering in life growing up was so much focus on myself, how I'm going to get to this certain threshold or this level or get the care that I needed.

Preston Woody:

And I realized the more and more I would think of myself because we're conditioned culturally for self care or to think of self or think. The more I thought of myself, the sadder I got. And the more that I thought and considered others, the more energy and passion and zeal I got, the more I would pray, god, break my heart for what breaks yours. Things would things would shift. And I believe that, I believe that every man has these three different camps, these categories.

Preston Woody:

We've got to we've got to come to terms with. So you're a coach. So as a coach, therapist therapist work on the past. That's their primary specialty.

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

The past is something is where our story dwells. That's where we get our story. That's what you heard. There's power in our story. However, there's not as much vision in it.

Preston Woody:

There's meaning. There's context to it. But sometimes it doesn't give enough give us enough leverage to to change. You ever seen a Christmas story, the story of Ebenezer Scrooge?

Real Andrews:

Yep. Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

Yeah. So he was visited by three spirits to help change his heart, the the spirit of Christmas past, present, and future. Past came showed him the past and showed him why he is the way he is, who the people that did things to him, the decisions he made. And did it give him enough leverage to change? Not really.

Preston Woody:

Then the spirit of Christmas present came to show him that the pain that he was causing other people's lives in the present, the things he was missing out on, the pain he was feeling in the now. But did it give him enough leverage to change? No. That's our mission. Our mission is what's happening in the present.

Preston Woody:

The thing that we're supposed to do right here in our hands. This is the podcast for you. This is this foundation that I'm building for me. Like, this is what I'm doing right now. But where all the leverage happens, like, the made the majority of the leverage leverage happens is when Scrooge met the spirit of Christmas future, the prophetic spirit, where he said, if you don't change Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

You see that gravestone? That's yours. You see that gravestone over there? That's tiny Tim. That's the kid of the employee that you underpay.

Preston Woody:

These are the people that are selling your estate after you pass away alone in your house. And then not in the past, not in the present, but in the future, he got enough leverage to change.

Real Andrews:

That's so that is so go ahead, brother. Sorry.

Preston Woody:

Not that's yeah, brother. That's where that's where it's like not one more day, not one more hour. Because we can deal with the pain of our past. Mhmm. We can deal with the pain in the present.

Preston Woody:

You're tough. I'm tough. We can lift things. We can run hard. We can but when we compound and think about the pain of the future, that can that's what gives men leverage to change.

Preston Woody:

That's the work that we do is we show them the the future. Like, hey. If this if we don't change, what do you want? Like, the you I see on your shirt. Do you want it?

Preston Woody:

Most people don't know what they want. They all know what they don't want. And so we're stuck in the present in the past. We can get clarity on the future and get that leverage about anything's possible to change.

Real Andrews:

Amen. Amen. And you know you know what's crazy? It's like, I literally was working with a client the other day. He's class is class actually, it was class 32, and he's come he's come so far.

Real Andrews:

And I literally, like, I lit one of my sayings is the past is history. The future is a mystery. The present is a gift, and that gift is time. What are we gonna do with it? We're gonna take action.

Real Andrews:

And then my dad would say, how are you gonna do things? Do them with excellence. Why do we think it's excellence? Because it has our signature on it. What do you want on your tombstone?

Real Andrews:

Do What you want people to say about you? What kind of legacy? Most important, what kind of conversation you wanna have with our lord and savior when you look back? Now Yeah. And and just like you said, bro, I Preston, I said, I literally just said to him, man, you should be so proud of yourself.

Real Andrews:

You have come so far. And I say, look at this. Look at this. Look at this. Look at this.

Real Andrews:

And and his response was he went immediately back to the past. Well and and brought and I said, woah. Woah. I said, hold on. I said, do you do you realize what you just did, bro?

Real Andrews:

And and you're not alone. This is what we do. You this is what the enemy wants to do. He wants to keep you in the past. You but that's not who you are anymore.

Real Andrews:

But if we and and I literally remember you just you just I got goosebumps with what you said. The holy spirit's really working through this podcast. I literally said to him, he said, but I don't wanna be x y z. And I said, bro, if you don't stop taking yourself to the past, that's exactly what you're gonna be. That's exactly what you're gonna be.

Real Andrews:

That you're right. That's enough. But you know, So that's so powerful what you said, and I hope champions are listening. You just that was some god drops right there. What let me see.

Real Andrews:

Was there I got so many good ones. I wanna make sure.

Preston Woody:

Bro, yeah. We can we can cut it, man.

Real Andrews:

Yeah. I think you just you answered that one there, so I'm gonna go to the next one. So what did leaving pastoral ministry cost you with your faith, community, your income, your own identity?

Preston Woody:

All of that. No. Yeah. I I think that this was like there was no backup plan, brother. I know.

Preston Woody:

There's no backup plan. That's all my education. That's what I was thinking about since I was four. I I mean, I a lot of people think that's wild. Like, I got saved in kids church at three, and I had this vision of me, you know, preaching the gospel since I was four years old and seeing people, you know, lives impacted.

Preston Woody:

There was a period in my teen years where I wanted to play the drums for Blink one hundred eighty two. But other than that, I wanted to preach the gospel. So that's all I knew. And I had no backup plan. So financially, it was COVID.

Preston Woody:

So my wife was a pediatric nurse, and we had a new baby. So she was on maternity. She was on leave. We were deciding, we were going to be a dual income household, who was going to stay home with our baby. This was not anticipated, but I I knew that I needed to make an aggressive decision.

Preston Woody:

And so financially, we tanked. We went from two incomes to to zero, really Mhmm. To a start up business. We almost lost our car, almost lost our house, and making making ends meet for the like, for and also within one month after us stepping away, our vehicle got into an accident. We got into an a car accident.

Preston Woody:

Our plumbing exploded in our new in our the new house we had just bought. We we had mold growing in our house. Our baby got sick. All of these things converged. And so I'm having to go ask my in laws, hey.

Preston Woody:

Do you have space for us? You know, I you know, walking that path of of really shame of, like, hey. This is not where I expected to be, but you know? And so we ended up living with my in laws for three months to as we got back on our back on our feet. And so and also with the relationship piece, we felt no grace.

Preston Woody:

I felt no grace to really tell anybody what was going on. Something that I value at a high level, I still do. I think it was a little skewed at the time was this concept of honor. And so I believe like, one of my core standards is honor, which is I I wanna live my life to add value to people. So real like, any anytime I interact with someone, I'm evaluating.

Preston Woody:

Like, did that person leave better than before we cross paths? Like, I wanna add value to people. Back then now I that's how I view honors is adding and building. But but but back then, I saw it more so as protecting image. And I wanted to honor my leadership, so I didn't tell anybody what was going on.

Preston Woody:

Mhmm. They heard one side of the narrative. And I just believe, alright, I'm not gonna say anything, and I'm gonna let the truth be exposed by the Holy Spirit. And so for a season, lost a lot of friends. Wow.

Preston Woody:

We had to we had to completely reset. And life was flipped, turned upside down. And I think I think the dark darkness felt heaviest during those six to twelve months post that post that exit.

Real Andrews:

Wow. Another thank you, holy spirit. God dropped just confirmation. You can go check out my Facebook page later today, Preston. Just it's crazy to me.

Real Andrews:

I literally my post today was my post today was I shared, you know, when I almost missed it. Because when I was doing posts to get viral, to get views, to get comments, and I was like, ah, that was a stupid post. I'm gonna delete it. And and I and I literally that's nobody's gonna like that. And I was literally about to delete this post.

Real Andrews:

This was several years ago. And ping, that sound happened like I got a message. And I read, and it was a champion saying, bro, thanks for posting this. I was literally gonna take my life today, but this post bought me another day. And I was like, wow.

Real Andrews:

And it was at that moment that I stopped posting and just like you said, I got goosebumps again. When I do a post and I I constantly gotta check myself because I'm human. I can get caught up in the rat race too, but I constantly so, okay, Real, are you doing this post to try to go viral and get a lot of views, or are you doing this to bring value and change your life? If I can say yes, I post it. If no, I don't.

Real Andrews:

So another another, like, confirmation there. So is there a moment as a husband to Dakota? That's your wife. Right?

Preston Woody:

Yeah. Yeah. She's she's wonderful.

Real Andrews:

That's your queen. Is there a moment as a husband to Dakota where you felt like a fraud teaching men what you were failing to live out yourself?

Preston Woody:

I think I think often I'd I do. And the funny thing is she'll call she'll call me out on it too. And so, you know, we'll have couples and entrepreneurs even come through, and she'll get to be a part of that and see that transformation happen. And And she'll see, how can you turn these people around and you still can't handle me sometimes? So I think it's a constant.

Preston Woody:

But also, I've learned a lot more about the masculine feminine polarity. And a more like the more of a masculine man that you are that's focused, disciplined, vision oriented, that's going to attract a more feminine woman, which doesn't always share those attributes. This she's much more

Real Andrews:

Mhmm. Wait. I lost you there for a sec, Preston. Are you can you hear me, Preston? You might have had did you have a call coming in or something?

Real Andrews:

It it kicked you out for some reason. I don't hear you. Oh, are you back?

Preston Woody:

I'm back.

Real Andrews:

Okay. I could hear you. Yeah. So we lost you at, it could attract a more feminine woman, and then it went blank right there.

Preston Woody:

Well, like, what I've learned is we we're we're, like, both humans, but completely, like, different natures. Yeah. The the masculine, especially, like, a driven man like like yourself, the man is like a river. I call us the river of reason. We're focused.

Preston Woody:

We're moving in one direction at a time. Like, don't get in our way or we'll plow through. And if we wanna change directions, it's gonna take some time to carve out a new channel.

Real Andrews:

Oh my turn. So good.

Preston Woody:

We're going from a to freaking b.

Real Andrews:

So gets in our way. It's not

Preston Woody:

because we hate you. It's because we have momentum and we're moving. The feminine is different. It's the ocean of emotion. One minute, we can be blowing east.

Preston Woody:

The next minute, we can be blowing west. Mhmm. Like, the river is is is shallow but sharp, but the ocean is wide, and it's deep. It's filled with life, with wonder. It can and you can feed the world with it, and you can also destroy the world with it.

Preston Woody:

That's the power of the God given feminine. Mhmm.

Real Andrews:

Yeah. Yeah.

Preston Woody:

So we I there have been times where I've tried to make her more masculine. Mhmm. Make her more punctual. Make her focused. All of the things that God graced and give gave the man to do Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

To compliment the feminine, not to force into. And I I didn't observe and see her unique feminine gifts. The things that caused the polarity and the attractiveness in the first place. And and so I've learned to relax in relax into it, to give her permission to be feminine, to have her Mhmm. Storm, to stand through it, and not to try to change her outside of the nature that god designed her.

Real Andrews:

Wow. Amen. Amen. And, you know, thank you, holy spirit. I I just wanted to say, I don't know why, but I wanted to say this right here.

Real Andrews:

What what's so important, men watching this, and it's something both of us are passionate about. So recently, we had a men's event, Preston, men's conference at our church.

Preston Woody:

Okay.

Real Andrews:

And we have the big room, our big room, which is about 900 to a thousand people. And we got the little NPR, which is like less. I don't even know how many people. So, and we've never, the man, the man have never been in the big room.

Preston Woody:

Okay.

Real Andrews:

Now, the man is supposed to be the leader of the house, right? Right. And so, so, our pastor said, this, we, we gotta get out of the little room today. You know, I'm like the D personality, like you said, so I'm like, yeah. And he said, and so listen, what happened?

Real Andrews:

So pastor put out a challenge.

Preston Woody:

Okay.

Real Andrews:

First of all, men have to be challenged. Whoever brings the most man, blah, blah, blah. Well, anyways, long story short, we did get into the big room this year for the first year. It was awesome. But what's crazy is I was doing a video.

Real Andrews:

I did a couple videos trying to promote on social media. And one day, the the holy spirit told me to ask the the women, why why do you think it's important that the men show up to the the the men's conference? And, you know, you could imagine what the women were saying. It was pretty powerful. Then I said, okay.

Real Andrews:

Let me ask the man. I said, do you think it's important that the man show up to the the the men's conference? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, why is it important?

Real Andrews:

And, they were like, this, this, and this, and this. And then all of a sudden, the third person I was interviewing, the holy spirit said, ask him if he's going. And I started asking them after I set them up, if you will. I would set them up like that, and I'd say, so are you going? Well, you know, actually, I got a hunting trip that weekend, or I got a golf thing, and it was crazy to see these men speak about how important it was for the, this men's conference.

Real Andrews:

But then when you ask them, so are you going? Wow. Wow. Okay. So, but it's important for us, this kind of stuff and it's important.

Real Andrews:

I think a lot of men, they don't, if, if, if, if it's been, let's just say devil's advocate, if it's biblically correct, that that's the order, but we, but the women have standing room only in the 900 person room, but we haven't ever been able to fill it. Interesting. Right? Something to think about champions if you're watching this. Alright.

Real Andrews:

So here we go. Some of you might have just got convicted. It's okay. That's why you're here. Okay.

Real Andrews:

What's a wound from your own father that still shows up in how you coach or parent today?

Preston Woody:

You know, I I think I took my, I acknowledge my father wounds in a perhaps unhealthy way for a time. You know, I I I had acknowledged how I wanna divert and then change from from my father. And and some some of those traits are being a little controlling or perhaps narcissistic and status conscious. All of these things that I just felt were so ick that I wanted to break off my life for the next generation. I got leverage to do that for my daughter.

Preston Woody:

But I in coming up in in that environment, rather than being resentful from my parents or my father, I decided to just take on the belief, which is this is a is a coaching principle and a tech it's great, is that this happened for me. Right? I was gone I went through this, the things that he said, did, whatever. That all that happened for me, and it made me tough. It made me narcissist proof.

Preston Woody:

It gave me the ability to perform high in a boardroom. It gave me grit, which is true. However, I acknowledge that it happened for me, but I never acknowledged that it was a wound.

Real Andrews:

Wow.

Preston Woody:

So it gave me the ability to perform, but it didn't didn't give me the ability to be present and to heal. Wow. And it wasn't until a couple years ago, I'm sitting in a Father's Day service where I realized and I'm and I'm I'm sitting there, and I'm I'm talking to the holy spirit. And that the holy spirit told me in that moment, I'm not even sure what the pastor was talking about, but it was anointed because the holy spirit was speaking to me. He said, son, I cannot heal a wound that you're unwilling to reveal.

Preston Woody:

I had never confessed to him that I was wounded. Wow. Because I felt like it was weak or I was delegating responsibility or blame. And it's like, that's against the way I'm wired.

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

I just wanna own it own the responsibility, charge forward, make it use it to make me stronger. I oh my god. I'm I'm wounded. Here. Let me take off my armor.

Preston Woody:

I was hurt. I'm not blaming. I'm just acknowledging. And it was as if in that moment, like, my capacity to feel emotion unlocked again. Wow.

Preston Woody:

And I could feel tears start streaming down my eyes. And, like, I'm so freaked out that I don't want I don't wanna mess up whatever's happening. Like, I don't wanna move. I'm sitting so stinking still. The service ends.

Preston Woody:

People are moving, getting out. I'm like, no one talked to me. Like, I've not felt this in so long. I it was this healing touch of the Holy Spirit happening because I finally confessed I was wounded.

Real Andrews:

Wow.

Preston Woody:

And I Yes. I I let my heavenly father in. And that that's where in life, I I don't think it's good to I I think it's so healthy and important for especially high achieving driven men to have an environment where we can take off our armor.

Real Andrews:

Yes. Come on.

Preston Woody:

We can say, here's my wound. Here's my scar. Yeah. Out there, we're all shiny, and people think we're awesome, and they clap for us. But in here, we take this off.

Preston Woody:

Mhmm. And and it's a safe place to do it. So

Real Andrews:

But it's so so important in that and to be able to be we as men have to come out of isolation. Yeah. Because as much as we wanna be able great communicators with our queens, it's not the same. You know what I'm

Preston Woody:

talking about.

Real Andrews:

It's not the same for us to be the best the best for it.

Preston Woody:

Right. You are, brother.

Real Andrews:

What's the boldest thing you've had to say to a room full of men that you knew would make some of them walk out?

Preston Woody:

One of whenever I was starting Saints Crown, I'd I had this I was like, I said, I don't wanna start this by being the leader that's always right. So I was with my team like, we're gonna like, we gotta decide right now. Are we gonna be the crew that's always real or the one that's always right?

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

We have to pick our path. And so I go in. I say I get up to in front of my my team, my guys. And I said, okay. This is what we're starting.

Preston Woody:

This is what we're doing. Here's the vision, and I wanna let you know that this afternoon, I snapped on my wife. She she she said something that triggered something, and I was frustrated, and I was unloving. I was not kind. I was not gentle.

Preston Woody:

I was not patient. I was harsh with my tone and my words, and I'm confessing that that to you. And I'm on a journey right now. I I've made a heck of a lot of progress. God has been so freaking faithful.

Preston Woody:

Mhmm. But I'm still on this journey. And if you're wanting a perfect polished environment, this isn't it. If you're weighing in an environment for us to enable each other, this is not it either. But this is a space where we can come clean and we can share our struggles and take our armor off.

Preston Woody:

And so if you're about to stay and I think we we ended up having about a 100% retention, but it you know, you never know these days.

Real Andrews:

Well, you know, it's interesting, Preston. You know, I mentioned, being part of the Men's Alliance and Goose, who started Men's Alliance. He he's I saw a video that he did, and it it's very true, and it's in alignment with what you're doing. You know, he said churches have a problem getting men to be part of things. And he's a military guy.

Real Andrews:

So he's twenty years in the air force. And he said this, he said, military, law enforcement, and biker clubs have no problem getting men to be part of it because the narrative is coming from a point of a challenge. And men like to be challenged.

Preston Woody:

Yes.

Real Andrews:

They like to and, you know, they don't wanna like, hey. I wanna let me be part of this circle and so we can have some coffee cake and pretend like we know

Preston Woody:

Beautiful.

Real Andrews:

Some scripture. Right? They wanna be more part of a challenging a real thing like you just said. This let's just jump to this next question. I'll come back to these because you you brought it up.

Real Andrews:

So what does saint's crown actually exist to rescue men from?

Preston Woody:

Oh, my oh, my brother. The our vision is to help take men from gaining massive clarity to massive action. Without vision, people perish.

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

When there's no vision, what do we do? We default into comfort mode. Comfort mode is the path to sorrow Mhmm. To anxiety, depression, living for that. What we do is we help unlock men's vision again.

Preston Woody:

Yes. And that's that's our that's my obsession to help men see and activate their god given vision and potential. So, we take we take men through a process where they can get clear on their vision, determine a chief aim, something that to aim at. We call a chief aim is the thing. Most people most people don't have this.

Preston Woody:

This is crazy. But this is a one thing that you are willing to leave undone in the next three to five years. Everyone everyone has to articulate that one thing. This is the one measurable goal outcome you're unwilling to leave undone for the next three to five years. Scripture says without vision, people perish, which mean or in other translations, they cast off restraint.

Preston Woody:

So in other words, they fall into sorrow and depression, or they just get it given to immorality. Like Mhmm. We need God given vision. I believe we've all been given a God given assignment. So what I wanna do, what we're doing through Saints is helping guys see and activate it.

Preston Woody:

Not just see it, but to activate it, to move on it, and turn it into a, what I call, a map, a massive action plan. So we've had one guy come in, and within within six months, he he let me he he changed his life and lost over 79 pounds. We had one guy come in who his marriage was on the rocks. His business was going going down. And within three months, his business did 500,000, and his marriage is revitalized.

Preston Woody:

There are these things where you can be in an environment like this where it cultivates your vision. It clarifies exactly where you're going, and you're around guys who cover you. They challenge you. They celebrate you, and you're in a place where you can articulate what you're dreaming and what you're thinking of, and you don't have to be afraid that someone's gonna be intimidated by it.

Real Andrews:

Love it, brother. K. What's a true if the church called you, you're good, right, for time, bro. Right?

Preston Woody:

Yeah, brother.

Real Andrews:

Yeah. Okay. Because I got some, we got, like, five more. And I and usually, don't ask all my questions, but I'm like, I'm asking all of these questions. So if the church world called you a sellout for becoming a coach instead of a pastor, what would you say back?

Preston Woody:

I'd I'd say if someone were to say that and that became a sellout, I'd probably be curious as to what that person's journey is. I've had some some critical remarks on on my on my story. And and while I understand that is that usually it's someone who doesn't really know the whole the whole Yeah. Chap they just saw, like, a little paragraph of my story. They haven't read the book, And, you know, they're making a judgment on that.

Preston Woody:

And to me, that's okay. That's okay. You don't quite understand. And that most people won't. Most people won't.

Preston Woody:

And and you really real most people don't want to understand. And that's and that's okay too. So it does be it doesn't make me angry or or frustrated or or feel defensive because the fruit is the fruit. The things that we've seen happen in the last Mhmm. Few years exist and is there.

Preston Woody:

I'm sitting across from my my, you my one of my new pastors yesterday, and we're bringing men from our local church into one of these retreats that I'm doing in October, these transformational retreats, because he's been hearing about how they some of the guys that are a part of saints, they've changed the way they're leading their family. They're leading at a higher level in their local church. So people can call me a sellout perhaps. And, I think it's okay. It's okay to it's okay to think that.

Preston Woody:

But I believe that we live in terms of assignments. Like, being a pastor being a pastor was not my identity. Yep. It's not it's not who I am. Like, I I would have loved to do that my whole life.

Preston Woody:

However, my assignment shifted and changed. Mhmm. And God uses circumstances to pivot that. I had a ten year assignment as a pastor. Now God's called me to build businesses and to minister in the marketplace.

Preston Woody:

This is where I'm called to be without a shadow of a doubt. When we look at the Bible and we see Timothy's assignments and the different pastors that Paul assigned, a lot of those were three some of those two year pastoral assignments.

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

That's not their that's not the thing they have to do for the rest of life. Why? Because it's not it's not about him. It's not about me. It's about Jesus.

Preston Woody:

We are delivering this message for a specific time in a specific role for a season. It's not our identity. So maybe I'm I'm building businesses for for a season. I'm doing it like it's gonna be my whole life. But, my my identity is not my assignment.

Real Andrews:

I love that. And assignment is the keyword. I love it. You know, it's interesting too as when you were started this podcast, thank you, holy spirit, as reminding me. I'm listening to your story and art like, we're both we're not kind.

Real Andrews:

We're both at the same place. We both been through, ministry. I'm still on that road, but we're coaches. But I'm thinking our lifestyles and our stories could not be further apart. Like, you were in church from four bro, I was not in church at four.

Real Andrews:

Like I said, when I got call

Preston Woody:

When did you start church?

Real Andrews:

In I started bro. Listen, man. My my my cousins in Jamaica, are hardcore Pentecost. They've been praying they've been praying for me from day but I when I when I came to LA to pursue my career as an actor, I'm I let's just let's just put it this way. That's when my grandma was a Catholic, you know, so it was always around me between my cousins and this and that and blah, blah, blah.

Real Andrews:

So, but then when I went to LA and then I got like heavily, you know, heavily dealing with drugs and alcohol and pornography and, you know, all of that crazy stuff. Then I started searching. I went through a season in my life where I was search, bro. Buddhist, numb your whole ring. Like, I did the chanting.

Real Andrews:

I went to Pentecost. I went to Baptist. I was like, I was all over the place. Like, all over the place. And it was when I was 39 is when I finally gave my my and it was it was in a Pentecost church when I got baptized and and, you know, was with my was with my cousins.

Real Andrews:

It's an interesting story. But, yeah, it wasn't till much later in my life and full transparency, it wasn't, you know, and god has like, listen, I thought when we talk about assignments, I I started acting at 16. I was on General Hospital for thirty three years, bro. Wow. Talk about my identity.

Real Andrews:

I, you know, I had dreams. I had visions. I had people speak over me. I see you talking to to large crowds and stuff like that and I'm like, yo, I'm going to be the next Tony Robbins. I'm going to be like the next coach and then I get called the ministry.

Real Andrews:

And then it was all of a sudden, I was like, dude, I, I, I was doing a 100 pages of dialogue a day on general hospital. So I, I developed an amazing memory, a photographic memory to be able to do that. And I and I blew it off at the time. I blew I I remember I was in church one day. I was serving one thing, and the the cameraman was there.

Real Andrews:

And, you know, he was I was I said to him, I said because he was always knowing all these different scripture. And I was like, bro, it's pretty amazing how you memorize all that scripture. And he looks at me Preston and he says to me, he says, Don't you do a 100 pages of dialogue a day on your show? And I go, yeah. And he goes, wow.

Real Andrews:

I wonder what happened if you put it just even a 1% of that effort into memorizing scripture. And I was like, well, I guess that would be cool. So at the, yeah, at the time, I wasn't even I wasn't even in, like, the walk I am now. And then like I shared with you earlier, I got called to mid. The best part of this past two years, and, you know, we'll do another thing that I shared with you talking about.

Real Andrews:

Like, I would not be in this position because I was all in like you. You know, we're deep personalities. Bro, if I'm doing this, so I'm I'm I'm in the word and listen to script, you know, this nine, ten, eleven hours a day. And I and now for the first time in life, I'm fast forwarding and using that photographic memory. Using that that that that thing stuff like so.

Real Andrews:

It's it's crazy, man. But, yeah, people are and I don't wanna give it People you can fill in the blanks because it's just it's just such we're in a real dangerous tough time like like, bro. And we're both on social media, so I I know and I think you've even did some some stitches on them or stuff like that. Like, how how do these people like, I I'm just like, are you are like, in the program, you know, of sobriety, one of the sayings I learned is play the take through to the end. And I'm constantly, are are you guys actually playing the tape through to the end right now?

Real Andrews:

Like, what you are doing right now, you're getting up and saying this crazy stuff. It it doesn't even make any sense, but, unfortunately, we live in in a world full of sheep. Right. So we we need these shepherds. I mean, they are so I did a post the other day because I'm sure you get this, Preston.

Real Andrews:

People wanna know. They know I'm into ministry. They know I'm a coach. Well, what do you think about this, coach? What do you think about this?

Real Andrews:

And thank God I got this from the holy spirit through my pastor. There was something. I forget what it was, but one of these big thing, happens, social media, something, you know, sometimes you have to have those meetings. I know you've been into them in the church. Mhmm.

Real Andrews:

Where what are we gonna say? How are we gonna respond to this as a church?

Preston Woody:

Yes.

Real Andrews:

Because you know we're gonna get questions about this, and we gotta be a unity. And our lead pastor at that time, and I've took it and I've run with it ever since. He said, you know what? He sat there for a minute and then what are we gonna do about this, pastor? What if somebody asks us?

Real Andrews:

What are we gonna say? What how do we respond to this? And he sat there for a second and he looked. And then he said, you know what? Our opinion doesn't matter.

Real Andrews:

The only opinion that matters is our lord and savior Jesus Christ. So what are we gonna say about this? We're gonna talk right from the Bible. If it's if it's not if it's not in acts, if it's not in the epistles, if it's not in the gospel, there is. So, you know, and and that's what I said the other day, this post.

Real Andrews:

It's it's a even a post like that, people get crazy. What do you mean? My because, you know, I did the I did the banner that said your opinion doesn't matter. What do you mean my opinion doesn't matter? Woody well, it doesn't.

Real Andrews:

But, anyways, okay. Yeah.

Preston Woody:

Yeah. I think everyone's looking for a place to to feel their frustration, their fear, and, you know, like, and God's graced us with platforms in this space to be kind of a sounding board for some of it. So, you know, I'm just grateful that they're they're watching, and it's cooking something.

Real Andrews:

Hell, boy. Is it ever cooking something? Let's cook it. Speaking about cooking, so what's it we got? Let me see.

Real Andrews:

We got, four more questions, brother. Four more questions. What's the truth about manhood you believe but are afraid to say publicly because of how it will be received? Kinda just what we were talking about.

Preston Woody:

A truth about manhood.

Real Andrews:

Yeah. That you believe, but you're afraid to say publicly. Maybe you don't have one. I don't know.

Preston Woody:

I'll I'll take a minute, and I'll dig deep to see if there's anything in there Okay. That perhaps I haven't shared before. But the thing that that turns up for me, which I don't think I have anything that I'm I'm afraid to say publicly, is like, your household if you're a father and a husband, your household is your responsibility. It's not your wife's. It's not your kids.

Preston Woody:

It's your delegated responsibility. The spiritual climate of your home is not your pastor's responsibility. It's your responsibility.

Real Andrews:

Come on.

Preston Woody:

You are the delegated priest of your home. So, if there's darkness, if there's wild stuff on the TV, if there's things happening in your house, you're accountable. Nobody else. You won't be able to blame your pastor. You won't be able to blame your wife or blame your kids.

Preston Woody:

That's your domain entrusted to you. Imagine god is the emperor and you're the king under his supervision given a castle to manage. If it's not managed well, who's responsible? That's you.

Real Andrews:

Wow.

Preston Woody:

So, what you let into your home, what you watch in your home, what you look at in your home when nobody's when nobody's looking, what you drink in your home, what you consume in your home. You are inviting that spirit. You have more authority in your home than you think you do. And if you step in and you lead and you create an atmosphere of presence, an atmosphere of peace, an atmosphere of worship, of life, Watch your wife and your kids flourish like you never dreamed possible. That's what I'd say.

Real Andrews:

Wow. Double god drop. Thank you, holy spirit. This is off the page. So with that said, Preston, with what you just said, you know what?

Real Andrews:

I I just wanna take a second. Just let that sink. I think some of us just need to listen and take that in what Preston just said. Thank you, holy spirit.

Preston Woody:

I think I think we don't we don't oftentimes sometimes people don't tell us about the authority that we have, especially if I'm talking to a believer in Jesus Christ. Like, we've got the the authority. We don't we don't show the badge. We don't use it. You can use it.

Preston Woody:

You can use it. And you'll be surprised how darkness flees, how darkness bends and bows its knee. Mhmm. And how you can drive out generations of darkness almost instantaneously.

Real Andrews:

What do you say, Preston, right now? Because there's men watching this. Me being one of them. Full transparency. I just heard what you said loud and clear.

Real Andrews:

And there's gonna be thousands and tens of thousands, maybe millions if god decides a man that are going to watch this and they're going to have the exact same wow. Okay. I definitely have lot a lot of bad stuff happening in my house. I'm definitely not good in that department. So, I guess, I'm doomed for lack of better words.

Real Andrews:

What do you say to that man who's, like, just heard this for the first time and go like, wow. Yeah. I'm watching pornography. I'm inviting that in my house. I'm drinking in front of my kids and telling them not to drink.

Real Andrews:

Letting all kind of stuff. So, boy, I've been pretty bad. I'm I guess I'm just lost.

Preston Woody:

Here's a here's a question. I was just talking with my men's group about this. And so that's the feeling of you're on the battlefield, and you see the enemy overrun. And you're looking, and you're deciding, do I step in there and risk everything? Is is this fight over?

Preston Woody:

Is it futile? Should I just give in? And the like, you don't need to feel more guilt and more shame for you know, forget that. Like, you you felt you probably have felt enough of it, and it's not been super productive for you. What you do need to understand is you do have a life's assignment.

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

And by giving into this comfort, you will omit and lose the opportunity to see that life's assignment fulfilled.

Real Andrews:

Wow.

Preston Woody:

It'll be spent and passed off to somebody else. You will wonder for the rest of your life and one day be dying in your bed many years from now wondering what would have happened if I got rid of the crap, if I sorted ever if I sort got rid of all of that and I said yes to my life's assignment. That's what the enemy wants to do. He wants to keep you comfortable, sedated until you're dead so that you don't fulfill your life's assignment.

Real Andrews:

So true. It's so true.

Preston Woody:

Nothing to do with making you feel bad or anything else. It's it's the question is, do you want it? Do you wanna be the that's it. Do you wanna be the man that god's called you to be? Do you want the assignment?

Preston Woody:

Do you want the mantle? Are you gonna take up the crown and and stink and execute and operate in it? Do you want to change your your your your legacy? Do you wanna change the generational pattern, or do you wanna delegate that battle to your son?

Real Andrews:

Mhmm.

Preston Woody:

Do you wanna break the patterns now, or do you want him to have to break them?

Real Andrews:

Wow.

Preston Woody:

That's that's the question.

Real Andrews:

It's so good. And, you know, you mentioned, kinda, when it that now is the time the holy spirit says it's time to talk about this. So you'd mentioned prior to the podcast and we've mentioned a couple times. Isn't it interesting? So I'm 63 years old.

Real Andrews:

So this shirt goes back wow. This shirt goes back

Preston Woody:

I love this shirt

Real Andrews:

by way. Thank you. This shirt goes back maybe thirty thirty years. It goes back a long time. I don't know.

Real Andrews:

I I can't even remember, bro. There's like, I've been through so much. You know, in the in the in the world living the bad life that that the the heath the heathen life that there's parts of my life I don't remember. But somehow, I I came up with this shirt way, way back, and I I I put this saying on the shirt. Now it started twenty, thirty plus years ago as and and and I didn't even do it for that.

Real Andrews:

I don't know why I I put this on a shirt, and all of a sudden, this was very pivotal in building my first 7 figure business as an entrepreneur because it became a very powerful conversation piece. It always started with a sexual in NINUE or whatever that word is. And it would be like, do I want what? You know? And, and I would, at the time, I'd say, do you want, you know, wealth?

Real Andrews:

Do you want, you know, to get out of debt? Do you want to be healthy? Because I was in, you know, that kind of a business back then. So fast forward to now is because, you know, God don't make it make any mistakes. This shirt.

Real Andrews:

Do you want it? Do I want what? Do you want the lord? Do you want eternity? So that's what and that becomes now the converse.

Real Andrews:

Isn't it interesting?

Preston Woody:

That's beautiful.

Real Andrews:

That's the

Preston Woody:

power of the question.

Real Andrews:

Right? That's it. Last two ones. Last two ones. How do you see god using men's coach?

Real Andrews:

Okay. No. Three. I apologize. Last three.

Real Andrews:

How do you see god using men's coach as a pulpit even without the title of pastor?

Preston Woody:

That's beautiful. I I think it it it disarms people. For example, like, if I'm on an airplane, hey, what do you do for a living? I'm a pastor. Language changes.

Preston Woody:

Yeah. People start talking church.

Real Andrews:

Yeah.

Preston Woody:

And and what I mean by church, I mean Yeah. Mhmm. A mask gets put on, and now I'm having to figure out how to take the mask off, build trust, and get out of and get this guy to change character. When I say, so what do you do for what do you do for a living? Well, I I work, and I coach Ben.

Preston Woody:

Oh, okay. Well, here's what I'm struggling with.

Real Andrews:

Open the door.

Preston Woody:

I'm the same guy, different title. Coach has gotten me into doors and business spaces with CEOs, with entrepreneurs, with athletes, with actors. Had the title pastor, the conversation would have been a little bit different. So it's almost been my Trojan horse, my way that I can my infiltration of dark spaces where I can go in as a coach. And I had these guys talking about drugs, Ayahuasca, these men's communities where where they're doing some wild things.

Preston Woody:

And if I, if I come in with the label of pastor, I wouldn't have the opportunity to be invited in these spaces and have these conversations and be a light otherwise. And so that's my assignment for this season.

Real Andrews:

I love that. I love that. We're gonna talk about something off camera. You just give me a thing. Okay.

Real Andrews:

The last two, I promise. Guys. This is this good stuff, champions? This is good stuff. Okay.

Real Andrews:

What's one sentence you want every fatherless man watching to actually believe about himself?

Preston Woody:

You matter more than you think you do. You matter more than you think you do. Amen. A fatherless man or boy will feel like for some reason deep down that their life doesn't matter. But if you really realized what was at stake, if you weren't on this earth, the lives that have been touched and can and will be touched through you, the one word, the one post, the yes to your mission.

Preston Woody:

If you realized how much you mattered to your heavenly father, you wouldn't contemplate one more day if you should live on this Earth. The answer is yes. Why? Because you matter. How do I know that you matter?

Preston Woody:

Because Jesus Christ gave his life with you in mind. He died the death that you you deserve. He had you in mind when he was nailed to that cross. He knew every mistake you'd ever make before you made it, and he chose to die for you anyway. So you can't tell me you don't matter because I have proof, and it's in the word of god.

Preston Woody:

Yeah.

Real Andrews:

Last question. Years from now, Preston, what do you want your kids to say your life proved about being a man?

Preston Woody:

He was courageous with his faith. That dad lived his faith, and he lived it with courage. That's it. And what I mean courageous with it with with his faith is dad is willing to lay his life down for what he believes, the gospel. We tell our we tell our kids as, hey.

Preston Woody:

There may be there may come a day. People think we're extreme, but we have we have a five a five month old, a four year old, and a six year old. I think there may come a day where bad guys will come to you and say, hey. If you don't renounce Christ, then we'll kill your mom and dad. We'll take everything away from you.

Preston Woody:

And what I tell my kids is that what would make me proud in that day is if you realize and understand that you it makes me proud if you love God more than you love us. If we leave behind anything else, it's that Jesus Christ is the son of God. He is the ruler of your life. And one day, no matter what happens to mom and dad, we will see you in eternity. That's the victory.
